History and Experience

Scott Hokunson, the principle behind Blue Heron Landscape Design, got his start in the Horticultural Industry in 1981. Working his way through college for a small but very talented wholesale nursery and landscape company in the Farmington Valley. After finishing college the decision was made to strike out on his own full time and the seeds of Blue Heron Landscape Design were sown. That business, known as Hokunson Landscape & Design, designed, installed and maintained landscapes throughout North Central Connecticut for 13 years. In 1998 Scott's path changed when he accepted an offer to work in the building industry. This eventually led to a position with a very respectable design/build kitchen and bath company. All the while Scott maintained contact with the Horticultural world, by attending yearly seminars, trade shows and occasionally designing and installing gardens. During the summer of 2006 that passion that had never left eventually led him back to create Blue Heron Landscape Design.

Over the many years, and through the many experiences I have had in the Horticultural Industry, I have come to realize that this is my passion. I have come to respect the land and all that nature has taught me. The commitment I now bring to Blue Heron Landscape Design is one of sustainability, and of ecological responsibility. Our focus is to provide our clients with gardens that will enhance their properties and grow with them as they travel the paths of their lives.
